Files and Communication
Attachments
What an Attachment is in GreenVee's data model, what fields it contains, and how it differs from files stored in the Drive.
What is an Attachment?
Section titled “What is an Attachment?”An Attachment is a link or image preview added to a Message in a Channel — like the rich preview card you get when you paste a link into a chat app. When you share something alongside a chat post — a website, a reference image, an external resource — it is stored as an attachment on that message.
What an Attachment contains
Section titled “What an Attachment contains”An attachment has nine fields:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Type | The kind of attachment — for example, a link or an image |
| Author name | The name associated with the shared content (for example, the author of an external article) |
| Title | A display name shown alongside the attachment |
| Link | The URL that opens when someone clicks the attachment |
| Text | A short text snippet or excerpt shown with the preview |
| Image URL | A preview image shown inline (useful for links and images) |
| Thumbnail URL | A smaller thumbnail version of the preview image |
| Asset URL | A link to the underlying file or asset, if the attachment wraps one |
| OG scrape URL | The original page URL that was scanned to build the rich preview |
Not every field is required for every type — a plain file link may not have a preview image, for instance. The Author name, Text, Thumbnail URL, Asset URL, and OG scrape URL fields exist to support rich, Slack-style link previews (pulling a title, image, and excerpt from a shared URL).
Attachments vs Drive Files
Section titled “Attachments vs Drive Files”Looking for “attach a file to a task or decision”?
Section titled “Looking for “attach a file to a task or decision”?”That’s a different, working feature: you can attach a file directly to a Task, Issue, Decision, Takeaway, or technical structure item using the paperclip/attach control on that item — no Channel or Message involved. See Drive, Folders, Files & Versions for how that works.
